Then waited to get 8, it was everything I needed in the sampling aspect.

I used FL a while ago then gave Ableton another try last time I tried it was like in 04, then messed around with the 7 demo that came with my keyboard. More or less, it has everything, but FL has a lot of "new school" ways of messing with a sample. The amount of things you can do to a sample directly in the sequence is amazing. So Cubase is in my top 3 best sequencers for messing with samples.

You can make any number of arrangements in a single project, and keep them all, plus keep your original arrangement. It also has a way you can take something you're working on and go into "pattern based" sequencing and take sections of the sequence and rearrange them and make them play back in any kind of order. It doesn't have FL's ability to drag anything from anywhere to anywhere, but it has a lot of stuff that FL doesn't have where audio editing is concerned. Beatslicing, powerful audio manipulation tools right in the sequencer, timestretching and automatic sync of EVERYTHING even in the browser, support for pretty much every audio format, a per clip non-destructive effects, a range of new beat making and sample mangling tools introduced in Cubase 5 including the "MPC" thing.

So yea, what do you guys think of FL's sampling abilities? If anyone figured out how to quantize audio in FL please tell me because that would probably be enough incentive for me to switch back to FL again.Ĭubase has a serious audio editor built right in. It actually quantizes audio a bit but I never really got the handle of chopping and stuff.

Oh and FL only supports 16 channels in ReWire but that's cool because I never use 16 instruments anyways, just be sure to use combinators to save those channels. Someone will have to elaborate on groove controls because I only recently realized FL had that feature (I'm new to producing lol) Sometimes a loop will be off beat and that just pisses me off. Also I hate the stock sounds and the pattern sequencer thing is a pain in the ass sometimes. Now the bad thing about FL Studio is that you can't quantize audio (to my knowledge). From there you can spend all day just messing around with each individual sound bite, reversing it, chopping it and rearranging it before dumping it to your piano roll for further editing if you wish.

It's just so easy to cut loops from tracks in Edison, then dump it to Slicer/Slicex. So far, I find that FL Studio is the best DAW for sampling. Well I played around with a few DAWs a little bit to see the ins and outs. More info: vMPC2000XL (28.Well, I always here people knocking FL Studio, calling it a toy, etc. To use the plugin version of the instrument, the standalone application must be installed first (comes in a separate installer).

VMPC2000XL can be downloaded completely free of charge from the project page. That said, it is a great way to experience the classic MPC beat-making workflow. The vMPC2000XL interface is certainly not the most intuitive in this age of virtual instruments and VST plugins.

As a result, you’re getting an authentic Akai MPC2000XL experience in software format. Every menu screen and software feature is modeled after the original instrument. More importantly, though, vMPC2000XL closely recreates the workflow of the Akai MPC2000XL hardware. You might want to look into something like the SPre plugin for achieving that kind of effect. On the other hand, the internal circuits are not emulated, so the samples won’t sound different simply because you’re playing them via this plugin. According to the info provided by the developer, this aspect of the emulation was “tweaked by ear” to resemble the hardware as closely as possible. However, it simulates the MPC’s digital voice filter. The software doesn’t emulate the signal path of the original hardware, so it doesn’t color the sound per se. The free vMPC2000XL plugin is a close emulation of the Akai MPC2000XL sampler.
